Those that know me know that I am a big Star Trek fan, so I was saddened to hear that Leonard Nimoy, the legendary Mr. Spock, died overnight.
Being a fan I went around reading some of the articles and comments posted after his death, I wound up reading the wikipedia entry on Nimoy, and I stumbled onto some very interesting information! Which I think is quite cool. The famous Vulcan Salute and accompanying phrase 'Live Long and Prosper' was created by Nimoy himself, and is based on a blessing given by Jewish priests, which comes from Aaron's Blessing in Numbers 6:
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
"Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." — Spock
"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." — Spock
"You proceed from a false assumption: I have no ego to bruise." — Spock
"Loss of life is to be mourned, but only if the life was wasted" — Spock
"He's not really dead as long as we remember him" — Bones
"Live Long and Prosper" — Spock
